This small island off the southwest coast of India is home to 20 million people who have endured unparalleled hardship. Racked by civil war since the 1980s, on December 26, 2004 it became one of the countries most devastated by the Boxing Day Tsunami. Once known as “India’s Pearl” because of its natural beauty, Sri Lanka is now called “India’s Teardrop” for the heartache that has made it’s home in the hearts of so many of the hurting there. As a result of the physical and emotional destruction left by the tsunami and civil unrest, Mariners has formed a partnership with an amazing local church in Sri Lanka. Together with our ministry partner we are finding tangible ways to share the hope of Jesus Christ to abused and neglected young girls and boys, widows and those most in need. The country and ministry of Sri Lanka also needs your help. Don’t wait to get involved. There are many “at home” service activities for you to get involved with, as well as Faith Adventure trips. Volunteers are needed to help in all areas of this ministry. Look through these pages to find a way you can make a difference right now.
