Questions and Answers About our Summer Camps answers

Can my child attend more then one camp this summer?

Unfortunately, no.  There are hundreds of children that apply to attend our summer camps each year.  We try and allow as many kids as possible to attend camp each year.

My Social Worker is asking, “Who is ultimately in charge up at the camps?” or "Designated Medical Person"

Where are the camps located?
All camps: LXC, TLC, LCKC will take place this year at  Tahquitz Pines Conference Center P.O. Box 55, 55251 South Circle Dr. Idyllwild,CA 92549.  Mariners Church recently acquired this conference center as a donation and is very excited for what the future holds.

My camper was not able to attend a camp last year because I did not get an application.

Applications are normally available in February and can be downloaded from this web site.

When is the deadline for the camper applications? (TLC & LXC only)

Applications are processed and accepted on a first come, first served basis until the camp is full.  Turn in your application early and reserve your space. However the deadline may be extended until all the camps are full. Typical response to applications received during the months listed below.

  • February-April = Chances are good you can attend.
  • May-June = OK. The camp might be full and you may be accepted to our “wait list”. You will be notified if a cancellation occurs and you child is allowed to attend camp. (“wait list” does not mean you can attend camp)
  • July-August = Not very good. Camp will probably be full by this time.  Send in your application and join our “wait list” or call for availability.
How do you choose the order of the campers?

We will make every effort to include your child, but due to the popularity of our camps, we must prioritize our campers using the following criteria.

  1. Returning campers who reside in Orange County.
  2. New or returning Campers who are a current participant in our Lighthouse Mentoring Program at Mariners Church.
  3. Returning campers who reside outside of Orange County.
  4. New campers who reside in Orange County.
  5. New campers who reside outside of Orange County.
I have more then one child, can I send them both to camp?

Yes.

Are Teen Leadership Camp and Leadership Extension Camp together of separate?

The two camps are held at the same time and location at Tahquitz Pines Conference Center.  There are however two separate programs and the teens will not participate in activities together.  One camp for Jr high (TLC) and one for High School (LXC) age teens.

What is the camper to adult staff ratio?

All of our camps have a 2:1 camper to counselor ratio. One staff member for every camper.

Do you have qualified Nurses and Lifeguards at camp?

Yes.  Every camp has a qualified medical nurse to administer proper over-the-counter & perscription medications to campers and volunteers.  The camp also provies several qualified lifeguards for the safety of all during water activities in the pool.

Have the counselors/volunteers undergone background screening? fingerprinting? training?

Yes.  Every volunteer has a background check completed before they can volunteer at a camp with children.  We check criminal history records and sexual registration databases.

Can my foster teen attend both Teen Leadership Camp & Leadership Extension Camp?

No.  In order for us to allow as many youth as possible to attend our camps, your child will only be allowed to attend one of our Teen Camps each summer. They are normally held at the same weekend anyways so that would not be possible.
